Dr. Karthikeyan is an agricultural engineer with more than 25 years of research experience in the application of engineering principles to solving problems in the management of natural resources. His diverse research expertise includes water quality monitoring and modeling, geographic information science, conservation and management of natural resources, crop modeling, remediation of contaminated environment, water disinfection, and biochemical wastewater treatment processes. He has published 80 research papers and developed 3 water quality models.
Over the years, he has developed strong interdisciplinary research teams consisting of engineers, scientists, and policy makers to address water resources and agricultural issues. Currently, he leads an interdisciplinary team to improve salt tolerance in crops and develop desalination technologies. He and his team received more than $20M funding from USDA-NIFA to enhance sustainable agriculture.
