Steve Hamilton is a dedicated professional with over 23 years of experience as the Director of Agronomy/Facilities at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, SC. A graduate of Virginia Tech, Steve double majored in Crop and Soil Environmental Sciences and Horticulture in the early 90’s.
Steve has played a pivotal role in enhancing the quality and reputation of the Dunes Golf & Beach Club golf course, making it a standout venue for the prestigious Myrtle Beach Classic, which made its inaugural debut in May 2024. Beyond his technical expertise, Steve has shown remarkable initiative in seeking out and securing additional funding for his department. His innovative fundraising strategies and persistent efforts have significantly improved the available resources, allowing him to undertake important upgrades and maintenance projects. His ability to engage with stakeholders, present compelling cases for investment, and successfully manage these funds has greatly benefited the Dunes Club.
In addition to his professional achievements, Steve is known for his leadership, dedication, and ability to inspire his team. He excels in communication and problem-solving. His positive attitude and collaborative approach have fostered an environment of excellence and teamwork, further contributing to the success of the golf course operations. He has maintained open lines of communication with club members and the Board of Directors, addressing concerns and providing updates on course conditions and maintenance projects. His proactive approach and ability to handle unexpected challenges with composure have earned him the respect and appreciation of both staff and members.
Outside of his career, Steve has been happily married to Tara for 26 years, and together they have three children: Emma, a senior at South Carolina, Ethan, a freshman at Presbyterian, and Anna Kate, a junior at Carolina Forest High School.
Steve is actively involved in local and regional associations, having served as Past President of both the Palmetto and Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Associations. He currently contributes to the South Carolina PPAC Committee, now known as WaterSC, where he plays a key role in state water planning initiatives. With a passion for sustainable practices and community engagement, Steve continues to make a significant impact in the field of agronomy.
